News- 30/08/09- 360 Price Cut/Hike, Zombies

In response to the price cut on the PS3 at Gamescom, Microsoft have cut the 360 elite's price meaning the Elite is at a pricepoint of £200. In a bizzare move the hard driveless version of the 360, the Arcade, has a price hike to £169.99- £30 more than it was before. Microsoft has committed to phasing out the Pro model, so those are really the only options left to consumers. But when the Elite and PS3 are nearly the same price, you have to ask the question as to why you would really pick up a 360 when the PlayStation offers so much more out of the box. Maybe a further price cut is needed for Microsoft's console?

To hit this point home Sony have started an £82 million advertising campaign with a new straight forward message and a more appealling nature. This means fewer crying zombie babies and more of what you see above.

DJ AM, an artist featured prominently in Activision's upcoming title DJ Hero, has died. While drug overdosing is suspected, he had been seen as a rolemodel for recovering from addictions and getting clean. His death will not alter his appearance in the upcoming game, released in October.
In related news, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana can also join the league of dead celebrities making appearances in Activision's music games. He will be featured alongside the equally dead Johnny Cash in Guitar Hero 5, the follow on to World Tour (which featured Jimmy Hendrix). Being included in a cash-in franchise wuch as Guitar Hero is exactly the kind of thing that Cobain stood against while alive and this move by Activision has left many fans sickened.
